Hi.

Welcome to my site. Check out my adventures in being a human. Hope you have a nice stay!

Open Workspace

Open Workspace

How many of you have had the experience of working in an open floor plan? A cubicle? An actual office with a door or even a window? Dios mio! I’ve had them all. They are all good and bad in their own ways. It seems that the open work space plan is sweeping the DC area. For better or worse. Presently, I have a cubicle - but next week….. OFFICE BABY! I’m gathering my things up and moving on and up.

You want to work space that enables a positive, productive work environment. The more jobs I have, the more I learn about different work environments, cultures, office scandals, et al. If there is a door behind me or if I am in eye shot of a hallway/moving people, I don’t work as efficiently. 100% I have diagnosed ADHD - definitely comes with a unique set of struggles and strengths. As a consequence, I need a more controlled environment for work. Really, I work best at home. Best means I get the most accomplished with the fewest errors and I’m happier. I love going into work for stakeholder meetings, to gather requirements, and to be social - but I don’t get as much work done at work. I wonder what long term productivity measures are being tested to measure the open work space impact. Maybe generation Z kids respond better to it.

Pluses are the socialization. Some days all I do is work, not a single non-work human moment. In the open environment, you cannot avoid talking to people. At the end of the day are we happier that we got more work done or that you made a connection with someone socially.

What are your thoughts? What work style do you prefer?

Everythings fine, I’m totally fine. Talk amongst yourselves
