Hi.

Welcome to my site. Check out my adventures in being a human. Hope you have a nice stay!

Group Work

Group Work

It’s almost a 4 letter word. It’s undeniable that this type of group work is less desired than individual work. If you are a perfectionist like me, group work is stressful. I don’t run in a pack and I keep my circle small. Depending on others for your success (in this case a grade) ain’t easy.

Biologically and historically, women have raised children in a group. Sociologists have the answer to this — Are differences in socialization or likeliness to work in a group gender or genetic? What do you think? And does ‘why’ even matter, really? There are benefits of group work - challenge assumptions, refinement, pool knowledge. Last night we picked groups in my grad school class. It was like musical chairs; who looks competent, who will I like, hunt and peck, swipe left.

The success of a group largely depends on the distribution of work (that everyone is pulling their own weight) and how well you work together (respect, listening, compromising). Last term we had a free loading cheater in our group. The workload was intense and overall the experience sucked. The rest of us bonded like a military team - perhaps that was the silver lining. My judgement and mental process of disliking group work is a heuristic process.

So, what time can you guys meet up on Saturdays?
